Central Ethiopia Region Establishment
Date of Establishment: 19 August 2023
Origin: The Central Ethiopia Regional State was formed from the northern part of the then Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR). This restructuring followed a successful referendum, which led to the creation of the South Ethiopia Regional State, with the remaining areas being designated as Central Ethiopia.

Ethnic Composition: Predominantly Gurage and Hadiya peoples, constituting about 70% of the region’s population.

Other Key Administrative Centers: Regional bureaus have been established in Butajira, Halaba Kulito, Durame, and Worabe to facilitate decentralized governance and service delivery.
